SURE LOCK SPIRAL SNAP RING OVERDRIVE

Symptoms:

  • OD loss (E4OD)
  • OD piston retaining ring popout
  • Catastrophic failure (4R100)

Cause:
The open-end style retaining rings do not have a locking mechanism, and are susceptible to being pulled out of groove by piston spring forces.

Correction:
The Sonnax Sure Lock retaining ring is mechanically locked in place and cannot come out.


First and second design Ford E4OD, 4R100 retaining rings are known to pop out of the retaining ring groove, causing initial failure or costly comebacks.
