Cause:
Wear at the Reverse engagement valve bore can prevent proper valve positioning, allowing Reverse pressure, which applies the direct clutch, to be reduced.
Correction:
Refurbish the valve bore and install Sonnax Reverse engagement valve kit to restore proper hydraulic function and prevent future wear.
In Ford 5R55S and 5R55W units, Reverse pressure from the manual valve is routed through the Reverse engagement valve prior to applying the direct clutch. Excessive wear at the valve bore can prevent solenoid feed oil pressure from correctly positioning the engagement valve, allowing reverse pressure to be reduced. Low Reverse pressure can result in slipping or loss of Reverse, burned direct clutches or delayed Reverse engagement.
Sleeve manufactured from highly wear-resistant aluminum incorporates the end plug to prevent instability and wear, and provides more sleeve/valve contact for better hydraulic sealing
Anodized aluminum valve incorporates annular grooves to hydraulically center valve and combat premature wear
